Spotting again!
Flight Experience – Flying in a Boeing 737-800NG Simulator!
I was given a fantastic 21st present by a few of my close friends, an 1hr flight in a Boeing 737-800NG Simulator at Flight Experience, Perth.
I flew initially from Munich Airport to Innsbruck Airport, which was amazing, landing in between mountains on each side into a valley. I then did some landings at the old Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong, which was the banked landing on Runway 13. I concluded with a landing into some crosswinds into London Heathrow Airport.
One thing I did note was that the aircraft was very slow to respond, mainly on the control column as well as applying thrust (both increasing and decreasing back to idle).

A great experience, thanks to the instructor Surith for guiding me through all the landings and takeoffs as well as all the instrumentation onboard the simulator! Thanks also to my girlfriend Steph for taking all the photos (were all on a 35L mounted on my 5D2).

spotting round 2
Spotting #2
So I’m back. Been pretty hectic at work so haven’t really had a proper chance to take any photos at all. Hopefully the festive season gives a few more opportunities to take some shots, but we’ll see how that goes.
So at last, Perth Airport decided to do something right and build a observation deck on the road that links the Domestic and International terminals. It’s at the start of runway 03/end of runway 21 if you’re wondering where it is.
Anyway here are a few from today, still not overly happy with the soft performance of the 70-200 when paired with a 1.4 or 2x extender but can’t complain about the range
enjoy!

spotting.
Headed back to the airport (well sort of) today to do some spotting, something I haven’t done in ages. Had planned to check out the new viewing deck being built near runway 03 but don’t think that has finished yet and didn’t fancy a yelling at by security, so I decided to stop by at a nearby park very close to the threshold of runway 03.
Had some issues with softness – really need a Canon 100-400mm! The 1.4x extender is good but not fantastic and you do lose quite a bit of sharpness.
Planning on heading back soon when the new viewing deck is complete. Oh and for those interested, the above plane (9M-MRL), a Boeing 777-200ER was operating MH124 from Perth to Kuala Lumpur.
